Golf in Maryland Resumes on May 7 at 7:00 AM

At his press conference this afternoon, Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland announced the resumption of certain activities, including golf.  This is welcome news for Maryland golfers and golf courses.

The Maryland guidelines for resumption of golf can be found HERE.

Many clubs, courses,  and golf associations will be following the more specific guidelines outlined in the ‘We Are Golf’ Back2Golf Operations PlaybookHERE – and which can be reviewed with other pertinent information on the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) website HERE.  Back2Golf is a three phase approach to safely reopen golf courses during the current crisis.  We encourage everyone – clubs and players – to follow these guidelines.

The MAGA and WMGA are developing policies and procedures and updating their ‘Codes of Conduct’ to guide its tournament operations in the COVID-19 environment. Those guidelines will supplement protocols put in place by clubs and official Maryland government agencies. Before we resume tournament play the applicable policies and procedures will be distributed to all contestants and partners.
We can expect cancellations, postponements, and possibly modifications. Guidelines and mandates announced by the proper governing authorities and host clubs will determine our actions. The health and well being of our players, committee volunteers, and members and staffs of our host clubs is paramount and will continue to guide our decisions going forward. Important announcements will be sent via our Constant Contact and Golf Genius platforms.
We would like to thank our partners from the Maryland Golf Council for their efforts in pushing, with one voice, to get golf restarted in Maryland.  The Maryland Golf Council is comprised of the Middle Atlantic GA, Maryland State GA, Mid-Atlantic PGA Section, Golf Course Owners Association of the Mid-Atlantic, Mid-Atlantic Golf Course Superintendents Association, and the Washington Metropolitan GA.
