WMGA A-Team – Round of Eight – Quarter Final Results

The quarter finals in the round of eight concluded today with a couple of perennial powers advancing.  Defending champion Columbia CC (winners in 2009, 2015, and 2017) battled four time champion (1987, 1993, 2006, 2007) Crofton CC and emerged victorious 11 1/2 to 6 1/2.  The University of Maryland GC, winners in 2011 and 2013, knocked off our southernmost team, Breton Bay G & CC (winner in 1996) 11 to 7.

Beaver Creek CC had a close one with Bethesda CC, winning 9 1/2 to 8 1/2.  Beaver Creek won in 2016 and were the runner-ups last year.  Old South CC, one of the sleeper teams of the tourney, took out their neighbor, the GC at South River by a margin of 14 1/2 to 3 1/2.

The four teams advancing to the semi-finals tomorrow all went undefeated in the preliminary matches as did South River, Breton Bay, and Crofton.

With excellent weather predicted for Sunday, we could have two days in a row of uninterrupted golf!
