The Cannon Club defeated the U. S. Naval Academy G. C. today by a final score of 14 1/2 to 3 1/2. Leading 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 after nine, they dominated the back nine to gain most of those points and the 18 hole points.
Played on a cool rainy day, the matches got underway at 1130 at both venues. It was back and forth for nine holes and well into the back nine. But as the round neared the end, The Cannon Club pulled away, winning most of the matches and racking up the points. Birdies were aplenty despite the off and on lousy weather, with both teams experiencing their own share of ‘what if’s’ as well as near misses.
The Cannon Club, runner-up in 2018, seems to always be in the mix, and this year they pulled off the win. This was the Navy team’s first go in the A-Team Matches abd made a greta run to make the final.

Final 8 – Round 2 – Saturday, July 31
The US Naval Academy GC team defeated defending champion Argyle CC 9 1/2 to 8 1/2 in a very tight match that like many, came down to the final hole. The bracket below saw The Cannon Club hold off a surging Lakewood CC team 10 – 8. The final showdown will pit the two Anne Arundel County clubs against each other. For the USNA GC this is their first go in the WMGA A-Team Matches. The Cannon Club has been a regular contender in recent years, runner-ups in 2018, and typically making the final 8. It should be a tight match, with The Cannon Club the Home Club – they won the toss.
