WMGA Williamson Cup Team Going for Three in a Row

The WMGA Williamson Cup team is in Ontario, Canada seeking its third straight win.  The WMGA squad – Jake Griffin, Marshall Meisel, Connor McGarrity, and Bryan Kim – won in 2021 at the CC of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York.  Marshall Meisel was the medalist.  In 2022 the WMGA was the host and the match was played at the Belle Haven CC in Alexandria, Virginia.  The WMGA squad – Chase Nevins, Stephen Betz, Bryan Kim, and Patrick Pritsios – won the match and Bryan Kim was the medalist.  No association has won the event more than twice in a row.  The WMGA team has won the event a total of eight times – 1964 (the inaugural event), 1970, 1971, 1974, 2007, 2010, 2021, and 2022.

The host club is the Lookout Point CC which just celebrated its 100th anniversary.  The course was designed by Walter J. Travis and is situated on one of the highest points on the Niagara Peninsula, 11 miles west of the falls and Buffalo.  Visit the club’s website ⇒ HERE

The 2023 WMGA Team

Patrick Pritsios – member of the winning 2022 WMGA Williamson Cup team – T2 in the Bob Riley Junior Open 16-18 age division – rising senior at Gonzaga – his Gonzaga team won the 2023 Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Championship this past spring – runner-up in the 2023 Bobby Bowers – 4th in the 2023 MAPGA Junior Championship – 2021 Belle Haven CC Club Champ (youngest club champ in the club’s history!)

Matthew Duke – winner of the 2023 Frank Emmet Schoolboy Championship – semi-finalist in the 2023 Bobby Bowers – finished 2nd in the 2022 Middle Atlantic PGA Junior Championship held at the University of Maryland GC which qualified him or the 2023 PGA National Junior Championship at Cog Hill GC in Chicago – T8 in the Billy Hurley Junior Invitational at the USNA GC – rising senior in high school – a rising senior at Georgetown Prep and a member of the 2023 IAC Championship team.

Teddy Seitz – graduated from Georgetown Prep and is headed to Bucknell this fall – 2023 IAC 2nd Team All Met honors – the Georgetown Prep team won the 2023 IAC Championship (their 25th since 1984 under the leadership of long time coach Bob Barry!) – finished 3rd in the Dewey Ricketts at the Bethesda CC.

Tommy Sharps – St. Paul’s HS in Baltimore – plays on the golf team – rising senior – 8th in the 2022 Denny McCarthy Invitational, member of 2022 the MAPGA Capitol Cup Team.  1st alternate in 2023 US Junior Am qualifier at the USNA GC.  His St. Paul’s team won the 2023 MIAA Championship.

The team is captained and chaperoned by WMGA Vice-President Hae Han and WMGA Secretary Treasurer Mike Garr.
