Lucky Charms Two-Man Scramble Results

News

The WMGA started the 2023 season on March 7 with the playing of the ‘Lucky Charms’ Two-Man Scramble at the Argyle CC in Silver Spring,Maryland. ‘Lucky Charms’ saw 30 teams compete on a blustery March afternoon.

The field was stacked with some excellent teams, including a large contingent of veteran players from the host club. Unlike a traditional four-man scramble, there was little room for hiccups, which led to many teams making some bogeys.

With the teams coming in one on top of the other at the end of the round it became apparent that scores were not going to be as low as expected. Gusty winds, from different directions through the afternoon, took its toll on scoring.

The teams of club members Ryan McCarthy/Mike Barnes, and Matt Barnes/Bryan Kim were two of the first teams in and posted 62’s (-9). Shortly after they posted, Charlie Winegardner (The Cannon Club) and Zach Verses (Trump National DC) brought in their 61 (-10), the score that would stand as the low round and winning score for the day. One more 62, several 63’s, and a 64 rounded out the top eight teams that cashed.

Three teams cashed skins with eagles on the three par 5’s.

The WMGA-MAGA One-Day events are growing in popularity and more will be added each season.
