The men’s schedule is headlined by Manor CC, host of the 2017 Metropolitan Amateur Championship (Thu-Sun – – Aug 3-6). Other Men’s events are the Mid Amateur Championship at the Old South Country Club (Mon – – May 22); the Young Amateurs Championship at the Crofton Country Club (Mon-Tue – – Aug 7-8); the Metropolitan Senior Amateur at the Chantilly National Golf & Country Club (Wed-Thu – – Sep 27-28); and the Four-Ball Championship for amateurs, seniors and super seniors at the Springfield Golf & Country Club (Mon – – Oct 24).
The WMGA conducts six junior championships. Some of these events are the among the oldest junior championships in the country. The Frank Emmet Schoolboy Championship returns to Worthington Manor Golf Club (Wed-Fri – – Jun 21-23). A team competition will be added to the mix. Competitors from the same school can compete for the team championship which will count scores from the first two days of the competition, before the two day cut is made. Details are still being worked out, but is is likely that a team will be comprised of three players and the two low scores for that team will be counted each day. Prizes will be awarded to the low scoring teams and team members. The Bob Riley Junior Open returns to Belle Haven Country Club (Tue-Wed – – Jul 18-19) and the Bobby Gorin Memorial is at Woodmont Country Club on the North Course (Tue-Fri – – July 24-27). The Charlie Ridgway Memorial (Mon – – Aug 7) and the Dewey Ricketts Memorial (Mon-Wed – – Aug 7-9) are at Crofton Country Club in concert with the Young Amateur. Due to popular demand, the juniors in the Ridgway will play eighteen holes (not nine). The Bubby Worsham Memorial is returning to the Glenn Dale Golf Club (Mon-Wed – – Aug 14-16) at a later date to escape conflict with an AJGA event and running into the Metropolitan Amateur. The Worsham was won by Arnold Palmer in 1951 and his name is inscribed on the perpetual trophy. There are not many times in a junior golfers career where his name can be engraved alongside Arnold Palmer’s.
