YOUNG AMATEURS – Davis Lamb, from Potomac, carded a 69 at Crofton Country Club and took the first-round lead in the seventh annual Young Ams tournament, sponsored and conducted by the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association, August 8. The event had been scheduled for August 7-8, but a morning rain and the threat of afternoon thunderstorms on the 7th was enough to have tournament officials postpone play for one day.
Evan Santa, Edgewater, had 70, and Evan Brown, Chadds Ford, Pa.; Brendan Peel, Potomac, and Ryan Kelly, Annapolis, all checked in with 72’s. Santa had won the WMGA Amateur last year, and Kelly had won the Schoolboy tournament in 2016 Dewey Ricketts Junior tournament two years ago.
The second and concluding round will be played August 9.
Dewey Ricketts – Brad Riley, from Olney, posted a 72, and took a two-stroke lead after the first round of the 35th Dewey Ricketts Memorial Junior tournament at Crofton Country Club, August 8. The event had originally been scheduled for August 7-8, but morning rain and the threat of afternoon thunderstorms was enough to have tournament officials postpone the start of play for one day.
Jimmy Taylor, Alexandria, Va., Jonathan Tucker, Alexandria, Va., and Ryan Balow, Gaithersburg, shared the next spot at 74.
In the 14-15 division, Zachary Maloy, Potomac, shot 72, trailed by Connor McGarrity, Bethesda, 73, and Ryan Feldman, Rockville, 74.
Charlie Ridgway – Jack Pogorelc, Bethesda, won the annual Charlie Ridgway Junior tournament (12-13 division) held in conjunction with the Ricketts, when he birdied the fourth playoff hole to outlast Alexander Maloy, Potomac, after the two had tied at 74 at the end of regulation.
