This competition was founded by Frank Emmet in 1934 as the Metropolitan Schoolboy GolfChampionship.  The Washington Post donated a large trophy, which was recently restored by the Emmet Family.  The early format was match play, often with numerous courses used in any given year.  In 1983 the event title was changed to the Frank Emmet Schoolboy Championship in order to honor Mr. Emmet, who had passed away in 1982 after having led the Junior Golfers of Washington for 56 years.  Shortly thereafter the format of the Schoolboy was changed to 54 holes of stroke play.
