Columbia Country Club, paced by veterans at home and a young group that won seven points away, repeated as champion in the annual “A” Team Matches of the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association, beating Old South CC, 12-6, the same score by which it defeated Beaver Creek last year.
At Old South, Columbia won all three pairings, while at home, pro Bob Dolan and Mike Mitchell won three points and Richard Holland-Colin St. Maxens split with George Shenas-Joe Hoffman, 1 1/2 – 1 1/2.
Among the Old South pairings, Columbia’s Billy Peel- Brad Whitaker, won the 18th hole to win the back and the match, while Pat McCarthy hit it to two feet for birdie on the par-5 18th to give his side (with Brendan Peel), two points.
